Commander's Call

Hello Legionnaires,

The month of May marks the anniversary of the St. Louis caucus, where organization of the American Legion was completed in 1919. Armed Forces day, Mother’s day and memorial day form the basis for good post programs and outreach to U.S. military personnel in communities nationwide. Consider honoring them with a blue star salute. Present school awards at the end of the semester. Kick off American Legion baseball and summer athletic programs. Contact school officials to get legion activities approved and on the calendar for next year; oratorical contest; boy’s state, school awards, American education week.

Upcoming events: May 14-18; Armed Forces week - May 18th 1st divisions Armed Forces Day dinner - May 27th Memorial Day - June 8-14 premier boy’s state - June 12-22 Illini girls state - June 23-28 youth police school (June 1st is the mini convention at Evergreen Park post. Time has been changed to 11:00 am until 3:00 pm. Come out and vote for next year’s officers for the first division).

The state convention is July 9-14 in Springfield.

Our Vice Commander has things set up for our annual poppy day drive. We are hoping everyone can come out and participate this year.

Don’t forget to come in for coffee on Mondays and Fridays. See old friends and meet new ones. Hope to see everyone soon.

Until next month!
