Commander's Call

April is Children and Youth month. Coordinate Children and Youth activities and recognition with the post’s unit. Obtain children and youth guide from department headquarters. 

 

Plan Elections of new officers, summer scouting activities and Boy’s state. 

 

How about an old timer’s night? 

 

Community service will elevate your post’s standing in the community, put American Legion child welfare foundation week on the post calendar.

The month of May marks the anniversary of the St. Louis caucus, where organization of the American Legion was completed in 1919. 

 

Armed Forces  Day,  Mother’s day, and Memorial Day form the basis for good post programs and outreach to U.S. military personnel in communities nationwide. Consider honoring them with a blue star Salute. Does the post have a uniformed group? (yes) Do you decorate Veterans graves? (yes) Present school awards? (yes) at the end of the semester. (yes) 

 

Kick off American Legion Baseball and summer athletic programs. Contact school officials to get Legion activities approved and on the calendar for next year: Oratorical Contest, Boy’s state, School Awards, American Education Week.

Don’t forget we will be participating in ceremony at city hall on Memorial Day. We will also be in the parade on the 23rd of May. All members are welcome to march for 4 blocks or come out and support us.
